Rebecca A. West
48, St. Louis, Mo.
Rebecca Anne Watts West, surrounded by her husband, father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and a good friend, passed away peacefully at home, without pain, in the early morning of Sept. 19, 2007. We celebrate her remarkable life which ended twelve years after her brain surgery for cancer.
Becky was born to Warren S. Watts and Mary L. Moore on March 28, 1959, in Moscow. She lived with her parents and sister, Peggy, in Lewiston, Boise, and Tacoma. She then returned to Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1977. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in high school at age 17.
Becky left home to attend Brigham Young University in 1977, where she met her future husband, Steven Davis West. They were married in the Manti Utah Temple on April 30, 1980. Following his D.D.S. graduation, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1985, where Steve started his dental practice.
On May 21, 1994, Becky graduated from St. Louis Community College as a Dental Hygienist. She then practiced for over a year in the dental office of Goodman & West, in St. Louis, until she had a large brain tumor surgically removed in September, 1995. Becky recovered from that during the next few months, enough to enjoy her walking, hiking, running, traveling, stained glass making, including a stunning rendition of the St. Louis Temple, and decorating and redecorating her beautiful home in Ellisville, Missouri. She enjoyed a very healthy lifestyle of eating and exercise, and particularly enjoyed her dog Macey, and her gardening. She was very active throughout her life in many and varied church assignments. She had extended travels in Australia, England, Guatemala, Mexico, and Cancun.
Becky fulfilled her dream of returning to her beloved Idaho with the purchase of a lakeside home on Lake Coeur d'Alene. The past several years she has enjoyed many, and extended visits to this lovely home, inviting family and friends to enjoy the beautiful surroundings with her and Steve.
Good health continued for the next ten years until she had another brain tumor occur in 2005. Even without the possibility of further surgery, she had significant recovery with chemotherapy and resumed an active life until further brain tumors occurred in the spring of 2006. Though limited in her leg and arm movements in recent months, her indomitable spirit kept her walking with assistance until midsummer 2007.
Becky is survived by her husband, Steve; two sons, James and his wife Keri; Justin; a daughter, Jenny and her husband Sam Bright; her only grandchild, William Matthew Bright, born August 22, 2007; mother Mary Howell; father Warren, and step-mother Ann Watts; sister Peggy (Neil) Warnock; also step-sisters Diane (Brian) Blimka, Brenda (Rich) Krier, Teresa (Clint) Overall, and several nieces and nephews.
Becky's family gathered round her bed at home, two weeks ago, for a final Family Home Evening Saturday night. They enjoyed a family Sacrament Meeting the next day, which was a special time for all of them. Holding her new grandson Will, with great difficulty, drew a circle and communicated that their growing family represented the "Circle of Life." She knew her family would be with her through the eternities. This was her lasting testimony.
Becky's love for her family, perseverance in the face of extreme physical challenges, and faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ were a positive and optimistic example for all.
Funeral service will be Monday, in St. Louis, Mo. Interment will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Riverview Cemetery, Coeur d'Alene.

Oh how I miss my dear friend Bec! We remained close right up until her death. She was always a shining light in her faith, family and dear friends! I miss all our talks and our ability to pick up right where we left off everytime we got together. She loved her Idaho home like no other, even tho she lived in MO. I still think of her quite often!
