William (Ryan) Williams, age 49, of Tulare, Calif., passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, due to complications following heart surgery.

He was born Nov. 19, 1958, in Lewiston to Joann Strong and John Williams. Ryan attended school in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1977. While in school, he enjoyed participating in sports, including boxing for the Boys Club team and playing high school football.



After graduation, he attended Hartnell Junior College at Salinas, Calif., and played football there as well.



He started his career in corrections at Soledad State Prison in California after graduating from the Galt Corrections Academy, in California, where he received top honors. Starting out as a line corrections officer at Soledad, he rose rapidly through the ranks to the position of corrections captain, the job he held at the time of his death.



Ryan met his wife, Evelyn, in California and they spent many years together there with their children.



Ryan was an avid reader and sports fan, especially of the Fresno State Bulldogs. In his spare time he was a volunteer coach for several championship youth baseball teams in Tulare. His passion was devoting his time to helping youth, sports and watching his sons play the great game of baseball.



Ryan is survived by his wife and best friend Evelyn; and sons Brandt, James and Matt, all of Tulare. He is also survived by his mother, Joann Frost; father, John Williams and wife Darlene Leachman; stepfather, Mike Frost and wife Darlene; brother, Mark Williams and wife Lori; and sister, Michelle Cone and husband Mike. All of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. And many other extended family and in-laws. He also had numerous nieces and nephews, some of whom he served as a father figure to.



He maintained lifelong friendships with former classmates Dan Hagy, Mike Raffety and Bob Quesenberry. He will also be missed by the many friends and co-workers he came to know over the years while living and working in Tulare.



He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Kent Frost Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at the Visalia First Assembly of God Church, 3737 S. Akers St., Visalia, CA 93277.

The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
