Rick Thomason
1958-04-24 2010-05-10Rick was born in Portland, Oregon on April 24, 1958. His family moved to Lewiston, Idaho in 1963, where he attended school, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1977. He met his wife Kathy when he was 20 and they married three years later on June 21, 1981. Rick and Kathy moved to Spokane to start their new life and together they started their own business, RNLT Trucking, and from there, Cheney Sand & Gravel. Rick worked hard no matter what it took to provide for his family, no matter how big or small the job was.
Rick's family was everything to him, they were his life. You could always count on him to lend a helping hand to others in need. Rick enjoyed taking trips to the ocean, always taking time to stop and see the sunset from anywhere he was because it gave him peace of mind. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and taking them places; he himself was a kid at heart.
Rick was a great man with a big heart, so big you could do no wrong in his eyes. He judged no one and would stand by your side. All who knew Rick in his 52 years of life here with us knew that he lived life to the extreme fullest and shared his gifts of compassion and love for everyone; an accomplishment that most could not achieve in ten lifetimes. May part of his heart beat in those that he has touched, and forever remain with us. Till the rivers run dry Till the sun falls from the sky Till life on earth is through We will always love you "Your loving Wife" For Rick's family, friends, and associates who wish to pay their respects, visitation of his ashes will be held on Thursday and Friday, June 17 and 18, 2010, between noon and 5:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA. Per Rick's request, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Community Cremation Service, Spokane, WA.
Rick was a very good friend and was a somewhat larger than life character. Rick really liked sports and was hard to bring down out on the Webster play ground when playing football. To describe Rick, I think the word tough is a good one. He was always good to have on your side. He was a very good hearted person and I am thankful to have known him.
tribute by Shawn RileyI knew Rick since first grade at Webster Elementary. We were friends. He was a mountain of a man, but the kindest friend you'd ever want to have. I remember in 3rd grade when we were doing those phys ed tests and it was my turn at the pull-up station. I did 50; but only because Rick put his finger in one of my belt loops and pulled my for the last 49! I wish I would have kept track of him.
tribute by bill stellmonWow... I had know clue that Rick had died. Besides being a nice guy, he was so tough he scared the heck out of me. NOBODY Wanted to mess with him. This touching tribute reminds me that despite all of our differences we are all in this crazy world experiencing the same things. RIP RIck... glad to have known you! Looking forward to getting together with the class of 77' in September.
tribute by Mark TrigstedI will forever hold a place in my heart for you,.. I will never forget the times that we grew up as cousins and friends. The time you pushed me im a red flyer wagon down the hill by your house and my leg ened up with small gravel inbetted in my legs. You felt so bad about that and I will never forget the hug you gave to me then. I also remember the times that you would spend the night with us and then we would go swimming at the Orchards pool. Those Bright pink swimming trunks! You didn't care as you were there to swim. RIP in peace cousin and I will see you again.
tribute by Karen ReedI hardly have a memory from high school that doesn't have Rick it. We spent a lot of time "cruzing the gut" in his maroon '64 GTO. Wow..that was a long time ago. Rest in Peace, Old Buddy.
